It’s not about WHAT you teach but HOW you teach.
We advise all prospective students that this training program is not focused on teaching asana/poses. Our primary focus is on the internal process of becoming a teacher.
We offer a separate Posture Clinic for those who want additional training in alignment, sequencing and asana/poses.
You will learn how to powerfully transform your student’s lives not by teaching them postures, but by showing them how to…
- develop qualities of virtue
- awaken their spiritual consciousness and compassion
- courageously look at themselves with honesty and fearlessness
- commit their lives to serving others
Applying yoga psychology will make you the best teacher you can be.
When you learn yoga psychology, you uncover the obstacles and fears that impede your life. After realizing those obstacles, we show you how to overcome them and turn them into resources. Your experience of life will be changed by this yoga teacher training because…
- you will become more resilient to stress
- you will learn how to live with the discomfort of not being in control
- you will know how to improve your relationships with others
‘How’ you teach is the secret to creating an unforgettable experience.
Students will come to your class because they want to have a new experience, a wonderfully memorable experience of yoga. Will you give them that by moving their bodies into different positions? No. You give them a memorable experience that will change their lives by nurturing them and challenging them.
As a teacher you have the opportunity to inspire your students, to create an environment within your class that encourages them to develop new skills and ultimately to step into the mystery and unimaginable joy that yoga yearns to show them. Fearlessly teach with courage and resilience and your students will follow you to become outstanding yogis of the future.
3 Training pratices unique to Atma Yoga:
1) Resilience training and Dialogue with your own mind:
We teach you meditations first introduced by the Himalayan Yogis like ‘internal Dialogue’ so you can develop a working relationship with your mind…did you know that your mind can be your best friend or your worst enemy? Internal Dialogue is the beginning of our Atma Yoga Sadhana or daily meditation practice and leads you into fear hunting and desire churning, difficult practices aimed at removing the internal gunk that is blocking your natural intuition and keeping you a prisoner of your fears and anxieties.
2) Presentation Skills:
The skills required to be a great Yoga teacher are complex. Most training programs take the approach of just drilling students in Asana practice, alignments and modification. As far as we know, we are the only program that also provides a systematic method for developing charisma, power and intuition. We call it Presentations Skills and it is our way of teaching you in a ridiculously short space of time what the best teachers have learned through trial and error only after years of experience.
3) Mantra Meditation:
Here in Los Angeles, the Bhakti movement has been taking off….centered around the singing and chanting of mantras. Thousands of yogis and regular people are experiencing the heart opening, blissful choruses of sacred sound vibration. In Atma Yoga we introduce you to mantras as part of our daily Sadhana because these mantras are your direct connection with the Divine source within you and without. Our training culminates in a mind blowing Mantric Tantric workshop of uninterrupted partner chanting that will break down those remaining walls of resistance and open up your heart to the beauty and mystery of Yoga.
